Head of Membership and Community

​Brief work description​
​

The Head of Membership and Community is tasked with driving the growth and engagement of HLA's membership base. This role focuses on fostering a sense of belonging, organising events, and creating opportunities for meaningful member interaction. It involves collaboration across departments to ensure member satisfaction and retention.


This role will be part of the Senior Management Team of the HLA. The role will be responsible for, and oversee the development of an area of work within the HLA. The individual will also contribute to the general management of the HLA including covering for other members of the Senior Management Team where appropriate. The Individual will be responsible for working with Cohort Directors and other members of the HLA community to develop individuals who may be themselves responsible for areas of the portfolio of work.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities​​
 

  • Membership Growth:
    • Develop and execute strategies to increase membership numbers.

    • Create targeted campaigns to attract new members and establish partnerships with organisations.

  • Community Engagement: 
    • Organise regular events (webinars, workshops, conferences) to engage members.

    • Facilitate networking opportunities and develop member-focused initiatives (e.g., volunteer programmes, interest groups).

  • Member Support and Communication:
    • Ensure members have access to timely and relevant information.

    • Manage feedback loops to proactively address member needs and concerns.

  • Fundraising and Partnerships:
    • Identify sponsorship opportunities and collaborate with partners to secure funding for community initiatives​

Requirements:
 

  • Must be a current or past HLA Cohort Director.

  • Attendance at monthly Senior Management Team (SMT) meetings (virtually).

  • In-person attendance at the HLA Cohort Directors Weekend in Devon.

  • Willingness to represent HLA externally at events.

  • Ability to organise and lead virtual team meetings using tools like Slack, email, and MA App.

  • Budget management and team appraisal responsibilities.
