Cohort 2020-2021

During the course of a year, the HLA will challenge scholars to develop a project within their field of interest. The scholars will attend sessions in Amsterdam with themes covering entrepreneurship, situational leadership, negotiation skills, advanced media communications training and more. The sessions will be delivered by the original London faculty, as well as by international faculty members. Various mechanisms such as peer feedback, facilitated reflection and mentoring are employed to encourage scholars in their personal and project development.

Throughout the year events will be organised where the scholars will meet the other cohorts, alumni and faculty members. Perhaps the most exciting part of joining the HLA Amsterdam is not only that you gain the skills and knowledge from the course, but that you are also joining a vibrant and thriving community of the healthcare leaders of tomorrow.

Cohort 2020-2021 schedule:

  • Sat 5th September 2020 10:00 – 17:00, in London

  • Sat 3rd and Sun 4th October 2020

  • Sat 16th and Sun 17th January 2021

  • Sat 17th April 2021

  • Sat 26th and Sun 27th June 2021

Applications for scholars for 2020-2021 will start the 1st of March 2020.

The Amsterdam Faculty

The Faculty Tutors help run the HLA sessions and provide support to all our scholars. They are from a variety of backgrounds and specialities.

Marcel Levi - Chief executive UCLH & Professor of internal medicine

“Leadership is the ability to let others blossom and grow. Like a symphony orchestra it is all about the quality of the teamwork, not about the individual musicians and certainly not about the conductor.”

Jeroen Geurts - Professor in Neuroscience

“The biggest challenge for me as a leader is to be constantly self-reflective without losing confidence in my base intuitions or first impressions.”

Sabine Wildevuur - Director of DesignLab, University of Twente

“Leadership is the ability to let others blossom and grow. Like a symphony orchestra it is all about the quality of the teamwork, not about the individual musicians and certainly not about the conductor.”

Bianca Buurman - Nurse & Professor of Acute Geriatric Care

“The famous Greek physician Hippocrates (460-370 BC) stated centuries ago: ‘It is far more important to know what person the disease has than what disease the person has.’ A primary task of leadership is to stay focused on the set goal.”

Naïma Azough - Politician

“The greatest challenge within leadership today is the challenge to not only lead individuals but to mold a community.”

Wanda de Kanter - Pulmonologist AvL & Activist against the Tobacco industry

“Not all what is legal is right or justified: we don’t want to live in a society where profits are more important than quality of life… My challenge is to bring the future in the present. The future is now and we must act now.”

Erik Jan van Lieshout - Internist-intensivist UMCA

“My greatest challenge in healthcare leadership is to juggle between moving (digitally) forward in performance and outcome versus the original art of medicine.”

Michel van Schaik - Healthcare director Rabobank

“My biggest challenge is how to help healthcare providers become fit for the future by providing relevant knowledge, networks and smart financing solutions.”

Sjoerd Repping - Chair Healthcare evaluation and appropriate use, Zorginstituut NL

“My biggest challenge is how to help healthcare providers become fit for the future by providing relevant knowledge, networks and smart financing solutions.”
