Ambition

The HLA aspires to be a growing international community benefiting more healthcare students and professionals globally. The HLA will do so by expanding physically, by establishing new pilots and cohorts abroad, and virtually, by organising virtual events and virtual cohorts. The HLA: International Expansion team will plan, execute and facilitate these ambitions.

Programmes

The HLA: International Expansion is a growing team made up of individuals from around the globe, united in our ambition to expand the HLA community. Besides overarching commitments, The HLA: International Expansion has established two sub-teams to specialise in physical expansion and virtual expansion.

What is The HLA: Physical Expansion?

The HLA feels passionately about increasing the accessibility of our programmes and enabling scholars globally to develop their leadership skills. The HLA: Physical Expansion focuses on sustainable development of new cohorts internationally, via the means of short pilot programmes in new countries. These pilots engage new international scholars, establish local networks, and assess the suitability of a cohort in the piloted country.

What is The HLA: Virtual Expansion?

Recognising the opportunity arising from the shift to virtual working, the inaugural HLA: Global Exchange event took place in June 2021. This 2-day online event brought together healthcare professionals from around the world to focus on collaborative solutions to Global Health problems. These events enable the HLA to connect with healthcare leaders, develop new networks and involve healthcare professionals globally without travel and financial restrictions.

As of 2021, The HLA also hosts fully virtual cohorts to support healthcare professionals from around the world to attend The HLA scholarship programme together.
